New Website
A few years ago I decided I needed a personal website to separate me from the millions of LinkedIn profiles. I am not website design savvy so I went to the only place I could think of…Go Daddy. There I was able to purchase my domain and use their design software “sitebuilder”. The software was nice enough, but since I don’t know anything about website design my website looked pretty bad. But I figured, “not bad for a first whack” I published the site and didn’t think about it much after that.
One day I check my domain and get a 451 error so I called the number and it turns out I let my hosting service expire, this isn’t uncommon since I don’t like auto-renew. Go Daddy wanted between $70-$80 to get me back up and running for the year, there was no way I was paying that much for my crappy site (when I signed up initially there was some kind of promotional rate). I politely said thanks but no thanks. I really didn’t know where to go for hosting service, searching will give you countless results but there is no way to know what you’re getting into. Then I remembered the company I work for was talking about moving our site to WordPress so I thought to myself, “why not check it out?” I wanted to make sure the platform was something a beginner could navigate, after some searching I found a WordPress tutorial by Tyler Moore. It’s a 2 hour step-by-step YouTube video, with Tyler’s help I was able to get very economical website hosting and build (copy build) a website that looks legit.
